The month of May this year was indeed quite merry in Jane’s World as my much beloved and I enjoyed our very first child free holiday to our happy place; Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. We stayed in the opulent Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa where old Southern charm abounds and nothing seems like too much trouble for the accommodating Cast Members who work there.
Now this may sound a little strange but for me one of the must dos to make my stay at the Grand quite complete; apart from totally immersing myself in the grown-up peace and quiet and taking full advantage of staying up late just because I wanted to – was to be sure to meet a very special Cast Member – the host with the most, the greeter who puts the gee into greet, the perfectly impeccable and absolutely instantly loveable: Richard Gerth.
You may well now be wondering ‘Who is this fellow Richard Gerth?’ It is my great pleasure to tell you..
Richard is a wonderfully genial gentleman in his twilight years who has been the official greeter at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa since 1991.
This delightful man doesn’t just do the job he’s employed to do, he truly involves himself by not only posing for photographs with mad British tourists like me but by giving folks help with directions and general information, by ably assisting the many blushing brides who arrive to be married at the Grand Floridian and need an experienced pair of hands to perfectly arrange their bridal train and most impressively Richard honestly does seem to recognise each and every Guest he meets for the 2nd time – and that’a an awful lot of remembering I can tell you!
Guests can find Richard in and around the front entrance to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa where he’ll be dressed in his immaculate uniform which consists of a pale cream suit, straw boater hat and a pair of very dapper spats; Richard is also a proud wearer of a blue Disney name badge which denotes he has had a Walt Disney Legacy Award bestowed upon him and if you enquire about this very coveted Award; he’ll be very modest indeed.
So if you’re in the Walt Disney World Resort area….go & meet Richard, he’s a real gem.
