I’m delighted to add that this article won £100 in Thomas Cook travel vouchers as part of #Flying100 Family Holiday Challenge with IATA and BritMums.
My friends don’t bother to ask where I’m planning to take my next jolly holiday, they just nod with a slight roll of the eye and a quiet understanding smile.
‘Disney World again?’ they knowingly ask…
And I reply – ‘But of course, there’s no-where else quite like it!’
And before you think ‘Oh dear, here’s another Disney nut’… I do realise there are many other fabulous worldwide destinations and not just Walt Disney World Resort!
My love of all things Disney began way back in 1979 when I was very lucky indeed to be taken on holiday by my dear parents to visit our extended family in the USA; our American cousins were naturally keen to show off their beautiful homeland to us country bumpkins from rural Cornwall and as part of our tour we spent a few wonderful nights in a Disney Vacation Villa on the shores of Lake Buena Vista over looking the then named Disney Village and the Riverboat ‘Empress Lily’ – now both respectively reimagined as Downtown Disney and Fulton’s Crab House.
With my first glimpse of Cinderella Castle, I was forever enchanted.
Can you imagine the impact that first visit to the Magic Kingdom Park had on the mind of a 10 year old little girl who had only ever read fairy tale books about Cinderella and had never even heard of Mickey Mouse? It was, to coin a phrase – quite magical. I’m sure even back then I knew that this wasn’t going to be my first and only visit to Orlando…And return we did, for several more delightful family holidays to sunny Florida and our newly discovered happy place!
Fast forward to 2007 – and now I’m a proud Mum to my very own little brood of Mousketeers and finally they’re all big enough to journey across the pond and be introduced to the magic of Main Street, U.S.A!
There are so many considerations and decisions to be made when planning a family holiday to Walt Disney World Resort, after all when you’re investing lots of precious family time and your hard earned cash into a dream destination, or for some a once in a lifetime opportunity – it has to be practically perfect – first time.
Perhaps it’s just me, but I absolutely relish the planning aspect of all our Disney trips. I love everything from the talking about it, researching it, reading about it and finally booking it and don’t get me started on telling you about making Advanced Dining Reservations, personalising your MagicBands or making FastPass+ selections via My Disney Experience! I’m so blessed that I’ve been fortunate enough to put all of my planning and writing skills to good use by helping other families just like yours plan their dream holiday and make some special magical memories as part of my position as the UK representative on the Disney Parks Moms Panel.
Remember: Walt Disney World is 40+ square miles of fun, entertainment and education all rolled into one!
Walt Disney World Resort isn’t just a practically perfect holiday destination or even just a dream vacation – it’s an experience for all the family!
Did you know that the 1st January 2014 was the 100th anniversary of commercial aviation? And even more interestingly that first flight took place in the sunshine State of Florida!
The first scheduled commercial airline flight flew across the bay from St. Petersburg to Tampa, Florida and took 23 minutes on the morning of 1 January 1914. Tony Jannus piloted a Benoist flying boat with Abram C. Pheil the former Mayor of St. Petersburg as his lucky passenger.
This short flight in my favourite location in all the world really did mark the beginning of regular passenger air travel as we know and love it today – I wonder if those men knew what they were starting and how it could change all of our perspectives and give everyone the chance to make memories which can last an entire lifetime?
If I can offer some extra pixie dusted planning advice for your upcoming Walt Disney World Resort holiday please come and visit me at the Disney Parks Moms Panel.
