Invictus Games 2016 at ESPN World Wide of Sports, Orlando

Being a true red, white and blue Union Jack flag waving British Royalist, a huge supporter of our Armed Forces and a die hard Disney fan meant I was totally overjoyed when HRH Prince Harry, America’s First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr Jill Biden (wife of US Vice President Joe Biden) announced last October that the Invictus Games 2016 would be held at ESPN Wide World of Sports at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando it was somewhat like all my worlds had suddenly aligned!

Invictus Games 2016 ~ 8th – 12th May at ESPN Wide World of Sports at Walt Disney World Resort, Orlando

The Invictus Games is an international sporting event for wounded service men and women.  This awe-inspiring event sprung into action after Prince Harry was motivated by the 2013 Warrior Games where he saw how motivational sport could be in aiding the recovery and rehabilitation of service personnel after suffering serious or life changing injury.

I only wish I could be in sunny Orlando from 8th – 12th May to witness this muster of heroes compete in a multitude of sports like archery, track & field and wheel-chair rugby.

In addition to the athletes competing there will also an ample sprinkling of international celebrities to entertain and regale spectators.  Amongst others Prince Harry will be supported by –

  • Academy Award winning actor Morgan Freeman
  • American professional dancer and Invictus Games ambassador Derek Hough
  • Primetime Emmy Award winning actress Allison Janney
  • Welsh mezzo soprano singer & Invictus Games ambassador Katherine Jenkins OBE
  • American Olympic medal winning gymnast and Invictus Games ambassador Shawn Johnson
  • British/Canadian actor and all round smashing bloke Mike Myers
  • American comedian and TV host Conan O’Brien

You won’t want to miss what looks to be a star spangled opening ceremony with Prince Harry, First Lady Michelle Obama plus music and entertainment from artists James Blunt & Laura Wright.

or indeed…

The self billed unforgettable closing ceremony with artist Rachel Platten singing the Invictus Games 2016 official anthem  ‘Fight Song’, country vocal group Rascal Flatts, American Idol winner Phillip Phillips, hip hop super star Flo Rida, The Voice winner Jourdan Smith and wounded warrior band Vetted.
